During WWII over 5,000 Kalmyks, the only ethnically Mongolic Buddhist people living in Europe joined the Wehrmacht as volunteers. They were known as the Kalmyk Cavalry Corps, or in German the Kalmücken Kavallerie Korps, officially shortened and known by the acronym the KKK.
