It was an impressive effort but the defensive ring around Moscow probably would have fucked him.
He was already a dead man by Rostov so he probably should have kept going anyway. Obviously, he was a dead man a couple of month after so he really gained nothing by surrendering.
He may have been too stupid to understand the consequences of his actions. It happens from time to time.
If Europe was going to push Russia's shit in, that would have been the time. Just roll on in, Moscow would have fallen for sure.
