A big reason for this is the comics industry keeps characters around so long instead of making new content. They keep characters around for decades, put them all in the same world, make it into this megafranchise they think will roll in the dough with minimal effort, and have editors curb the creativity as much as possible.
It sucks. People who defend the latest Superman or Hulk runs suffer from Stockholm syndrome. This shit is beyond awful. I hate that comics have constantly gotten fucked over like this, and people still stick up for the industry.
Manga isn't better because Japs are so artistically superior, they're better by default because the western industry has done fuck all to obtain this level creativity and talent. They have worked really hard against good comics, constantly killing their golden geese.
