Comic superheroes don't really have a system, it's just a bunch of cool powers put together. Take Superman. What does flight, super-speed, super-strength, and laser eyes have to do with one another? And it's completely disconnected from Dr. Fate's sorcery or the Flash's Speed Force.

Lol. Now I am not denying that a lot of SJ manga have asspulls but capeshit comics are full of them as well. Characters can often beat other stronger characters when the plot demands all the time and then they get defeated by weaker guys in the next chapter. Capeshit is even more full of plot conveniences and asspulls than battle shonen manga and you have to be retarded to consider them "pleasant surprises". When a superhero pulls out a new ability out of his ass and you have 100 of examples where he could have used that ability in the past to solve a problem you start questioning if he is braindead.

I never saw that Rian Johnson actual murder mystery film but I heard it engages in the same kind of stupidity while masquerading as something more intelligent.

I agree that most SJ manga fail at that since they are released once a week and as a result there isn't always a proper plot outline for them but there plenty of examples where that's not the case. The first manga that comes to mind is Pandora Hearts, which has great worldbuilding that remains consistent up until the end. I agree with your movie example.

A big reason for this is the comics industry keeps characters around so long instead of making new content. They keep characters around for decades, put them all in the same world, make it into this megafranchise they think will roll in the dough with minimal effort, and have editors curb the creativity as much as possible.

That's provably false. The most "power-scaley" japanese media gets is in chuuni visual novels and those are written in japanese flowery language that is extremely hard for children to understand. You can tell if a piece of japanese media is made for adults based entirely on the vocabulary used in that work. Chuuni vns have harder language than the majority of seinen manga and as a result they are not recommended for people that are just learning japanese.

The problem with most cape comics is that they usually have really stiff paneling which makes the powers less interesting visually and the powers themselves can sometimes be extremely bland. Not all western comics have that problem though, for example Chew was pretty good.
