Jiu jitsu rocks, i've been doing it for a few years.
The only thing i think you should keep in mind is that it won't prepare you for the first half of a fight, every fight starts standing and if you can't deal with punches then you are going to get your goose cooked. Even royce gracie in UFC 1 knew how to deal with strikes, it's essential. I'd say do some boxing/muay thai first (or just whenever, really.) and once you're comfortable with dealing with punches, go all in on jiu jitsu. Last thing you want is to get your ego crushed by some meat head who is less skilled than you haha.
