An 8-10 hour TV show could explore plotlines and aspects of characterisation that were neglected or left out of the 2 hour movies. It's a much slower, more character-driven experience compared to a movie. It could also have a radically different aesthetic and tone to the movie (although it probably won't judging from the little we've seen of it so far is leaning into nostalgia bait). This is why I have always argued for a legit LOTR TV show based on the art style of John Howe. Make it really strange high fantasy and lean into the parts of the book that were left out of the films.
