The elitism you showcase towards a PS2 game that had mixed reception on release and never sold well really shows you how much of a brat you are about vidya. Silent Hill 2 is a great game. And it's also a clunky, flawed, frustrating game that doesn't really DESIRE to be played by anyone. It's a game that presents you a nightmare, and then says "don't you wanna go deeper?"
It's a series that inherently appeals to weird and depraved people. But having really unfun combat and controls means that 90% of the "modern audience" who is interested in the premise but have only known Minecraft get turned off in about 20 minutes of fumbling around. I'm not saying Silent Hill should appeal to the lowest common denominator, but what I'm saying is that SH2 is notoriously "unfun". It's not a game you tell someone to play by stating "it's so fun". No, you recommend Silent Hill to your sicko friend when you want them to experience peak creepy atmosphere and witness some fucked up shit.
But SH2R? It's a lot more fun to play inherently, whether it's smashing windows or stomping or blasting mannequins with a shotgun. There's more interactivity moment to moment to keep the zoomers invested, but it also is just naturally a more competent "video game" with individualized enemy mechanics, shooting mechanics, encounter design, and much deeper boss mechanics.
tldr; you are blinded by nostalgia like half of this board
