The plantation describes a 65 block diameter circle centered around the mill, essentially a circle drawn within a 4x4 chunk area. I wasn't sure if this would be big enough, especially with the large area taken up by the mill and surrounding cattle, the eight wide access paths like spokes of a wheel dividing the cane, the three buildings within the blueprint, the various log terracing to prevent erosion, and one small area with a sinkhole left wild near the edge of the circle. However, even with all of these intrusions limiting the cane grow space, a full harvest of the plantation, without wasting too much time wading through the water for stragglers, yields just about exactly a barrel and a half of sugar, and the whole thing fits neatly between the two rivers and mostly inside the cover of the birch forest. It's the perfect size after all.

Thanks for the advice, I'll probably swap it out for tiles then. I want to keep the quickly constructed look so nothing too smooth.
