They are. With the IT the enemies are stronger, the gimmicks are weaker (When the elemental buffs were first added in you could massacre everything with just the effects popping off, now they're just defense debuffs or maybe one weak attack at best), and you have to deal with gimmicks if you want the stars at all. If you don't care about stars then it's still harder. I have a relative who could barely clear it back then and struggles massively now, while I went from 10 starring everything every single time to missing a star or two on a boss, or only beating a boss by 1 second the past few resets now.
With the Spiral Abyss they changed enemies out, yes, but Local Legends are now treated as common enemies part of normal floors and they're actively increasing HP bloat to unbelievable degrees. There was one graph I saw that showed how it's been spiking up and up with each patch but here's a quick example I found on Google. That's not even taking into account that some of the new bosses are actual gimmick checks like the Xilonen/Mavuika/Kachina mech towers or the Cryo mech that you have to freeze or you deal no damage.
