The bizarre thing is that the interquel swings things hard in the other direction and ends up being one of the least grimdark Gundam. Like the first fight they have with Gjallarhorn, nobody even ends up a gory mess. Then there's a wholesome romance between the main character and the Issue girl.

The setting is why I'm looking forward to Urdr Hunt. You have all these dangerous ruins, sentient war machines, ancient super tech, and other craziness like self replicating minefields (pre Calamity IBO was probably the most advanced Gundam setting) left over from the great war, but instead of touring the solar system to see that, they're focused on a bunch of child mercs getting manipulated by different factions of Gjallarhorn against other factions of Gjallarhorn. From the shit I've seen, the treasure hunters seem more likable than Tekkadan as well (even the one Tekkadan(?) member of the team).
