That's bullshit though, and makes Newsom feel like an even bigger grandstander than he usually is. Only nine of California's fifty-two House Representatives are Republicans, the state is already gerrymandered to hell and back (see: pic. related).

Even if Newsom could A. get the state legislature to go along with him on it, B. change the California state constitution (California redistricting is handled by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission and changing that would require a change to Article XXI of the California constitution) and C. California voters approved the constitutional change, the simple fact is it's essentially impossible for them to draw a new California map that nets them six more Democratic U.S. House members to offset what Texas is doing.
