If I had to guess, Itsuno is more impressed by new technology than anything else, so he thought it'd be pretty hard to outdo himself in DMC5 because 4 was ridiculously good looking and performing for how early it was into the 7th gen lifecycle. Despite having my reservations with the art style I can't deny DMC5 is one sick ass looking game in motion.
