Disregard his opinion, always disregard roid user's opinions if you are natural and plan on staying that way. The massive confounding factor that is exogenous hormones makes their opinions on training completely irrelevant for natties.
In terms of training splits, there's no question that brosplits rarely if ever work, because the frequency is far too low. You could get away with frequency that low for huge muscle groups, like the posterior chain (glutes/hamstrings) or maybe quads if you blast them, but it's uncomfortable and doesn't get you the best results for hypertrophy. You're better off splitting volume throughout the week while still getting high intensity, as close to failure as you can manage on most lifts (I exclude lower body compounds from this because they can be dangerous to fail on, especially for noobs).
Keep training PPL, try a bunch of different exercises to see which ones you take to the best, and keep being consistent. The gains will come, and experience and wisdom (self-knowledge) will come with it.
