Does it really even have to be Mega Man at this point then? If you're just going to spend years and millions to reinvent Mega Man by changing the formula yet again into something completely different just call it something different. Let Mega Man be that 80s and 90s franchise. You don't need to keep trying to reinventing every old NES franchise for the modern era. I never understood the appeal of making something so utterly divorced from the original but slapping the name of some 30 year old property on it. Mega Man Legends and Battle Network were already so far removed from what made Mega Man "Mega Man" what was even the point in pretending they were the same thing? Do you really need a recognizable name?

I'm actually glad they didn't turn around after Mega Man 11 and make 5 more games in the same style every year until we all grew sick of it. It showed incredible restraint. And if they're going to spend years and millions on a new game I'd rather it just be allowed to be something new instead of saddling it with the Mega Man name for no reason. Imagine if instead of Dead Rising, Dark Void, and Lost Planet those were all just rebranded Mega Man and the protagonist was inexplicably made into a blue robot so we could slap a recognizable name on it.

I think we've had enough Mega Man, unless they have a uniquely interesting twist on the Mega Man formula I don't see the point in making more of them. I don't understand why people obsess over franchises and brands.
