The Avatar is a player self-insert. Not even Sega is dumb enough to have any form of media establish a canon form to the Avatar. Picsreel can be used for marketing but not in any actual stories.
The IDW writers being arrogant enough to think they would be allowed to make "our Avatar" the canon one is just a giant red flag. Now imagine if Sega was that retarded and Whisper became the canon Avatar. That's a borderline franchise killer situation right there.
