What are women looking for exactly during "bad boy phase"?

Why do women after 30 want the "good guy" for "nice guy" and a doormat to provide while all the other men were "bad boys" who had to do very little to have you physically and emotionally? Women have this weird expectation that if it isn't some sort of grand magical journey like a story then it isn't worth anything. They want men to play them hot and cold because they crave that constant conflict/resolution.
