>compares reparations to unpaid debts
>white peoples benefited the most so now they should pay to make up the difference
There’s no way to actually pay reparations without white Americans getting screwed. You may say that this is rightfully so, but given how long a time has past and the economic tribulations, we could track down every slave owning family to find:
>some of them are completely wiped out or no longer exist due to complications
>others are now actually wealthy black families
>some are alive and have no money at all
>social pressures have lead them to give up their estates to former slaves already
>others have just made their fortunes in other ways
You can really go after social ostracism and red lining relating to white Americans views on the topic and collapsing monetary restrictions as a reparation, but direct monetary compensation is now no longer possible between the bereaved and the aggregate.
>some slave families have made their own fortunes and won their own stories
>entire communities have risen, fallen and rebounded
We also can’t have this conversation correctly without getting the Nigerian and Ivory Coast governments to hand back the value of the possessions traded for the amount of Africans headed to the new world, which ships were bound where, and what followed.
The time to gain reparations at all was 10 years after the civil war when most of these systems could have been tracked. Worse, is we can’t really say they owe anything because in the day this wasn’t a crime.
TL;DR:
Slave owners are all dead and their families will get away with it because technically by the letter of the law, no crimes were committed, and by the second if we qualify this as crime, the bereavement period has long passed to make an assessment. Black Americans are asking for cash and emotional closure to their own existence that is slightly white peoples fault.
