Shadows isn't a samurai game, it's a shinobi game that rarely has a guy who everyone pretends is a samurai every once in a while. It's 90% Naoe, 10% Yasuke at best unless you intentionally play as Yasuke when the story doesn't ask for it, and you will be heavily stonewalled when it comes to exploring locations like temples/shrines, castles, and so on with him.
Even then using a katana as Yasuke is terrible so you're never going to embody even that aspect during combat. His best weapon is by an enormous amount is a naginata. There is no real reason to use a katana unless forced into using one because it's slow, weak, and can barely deal with more than one enemy while the kanabo can't deal with bandits whatsoever and deals about as much damage as the naginata with worse skills and takes twice as long to do so.
