no its that americans who aren't coastal elites are generally stupid people
the obvious explanation for this is that all the intelligent, industrious, clever, ambitious americans from flyover states simply go to college and then end up in the coastal elite through the semi-functional american meritocratic system because there is zero reason to stay in a shitty dying exurburb or rural hole if you can help it and get out
system working as intended i guess but there are obvious downsides which become apparent in situations like this. like how all high IQ americans who can do math dont do engineering and wouldn't touch manufacturing with a ten foot pole. the returns on invested capital in manufacturing are so low, it's literally a massive opportunity cost to have a high IQ person work in manufacturing. So they are are in some form of derivatives trading or they're 'cracked programmers' in some silicon valley startup instead.
not to add that the US manufacturing sector writ large has been so hollowed out that tio even approach something like first-class standards in manfacturing literally anything we'd need to basically do a meiji restoration type come to jesus moment where the state sends our best and brightest to china to learn how to actually do anything, and spend probably hundrends of billions if not trillions on some massive industrial policy / capital investment scheme. which isnt gonna happen
Anyway yeah yuropoors continue to do OK because as a traditional people who also don't have high return-on-capital industries they still have smart people who occasionally work in something pretty mid capitalism-wise like 'making small arms'. but honestly that's more of an indictment of the eurozone economy than anything else. they'd love to be trading options for ken griffin for $20MM annual paychecks if they could. but they cant, so instead they make better guns than cleetus. congratulations
