Theyre willing to make an exception to their completely asinine and bullshit process in only one case: If you, individually, have a purchase order of 50+ guns, they will import them for you. Some guys on reddit a couple years ago did this in order to get them to import 50 PE90s. It is however, obviously really difficult to get a buy list like that going considering its a no-name company asking you to front $2000 on a $4000 gun that you will recieve in 8-12 months.
I found it easier to just spend $8000 more to buy a preban on gb and not deal with JDI, honestly.
The alternative is, M+M enterprises and SIGUSA both have done import runs of 553 pistols in all black. They did that before people realised the ATF would allow pistols with >16" barrels to be imported which is how the 550s are getting in. I forgot who discovered you could do that, I want to say it was HK, but it wasnt that long ago, definitely within the last 10 years.
Overall, I think the import of SAN guns has been a failure for anyone importing them, and its unlikely to see more large batches of proper guns imported and then offered for sale on atlanticcity or something, because the guns are so expensive. Everyone wants a Sig 550, until they see the price tag. Its $5000. You could buy 10 ARs for that. So they remain a boutique item that only mom's basement shops like JDI will deal with.
While writing this post, I remembered cogunsales typically has some sig 550 products, and they seem to have a few sig 550 pistols in stock, which I'll figure they imported themselves. The point stands though,
