This gets my autism running for a few reasons. First of all Digimon partners are, exactly that, they're partners, they're fully capable of talking to their human "tamers", because they're both fully sapient and have a say in what they do.
Secondly, even in Pokemon they're "partners", albiet, because Pokemon is an idealized world where mankind works with nature for the most part rather than just viewing it as a means to an end, thus the relationship is more two consensual parties working together than one of a "master".
