>fans who like the game wait for the game's release
>bored, dying of boredom, want any lick of content
>make memes and joke about how long it's taking over years while having to move onto new games in the mean time, keeping their appreciation for hollow knight with them
>over the years every community has 1-5 dudes that are waiting for silksong
>outsiders get caught up to speed with the memes
>fans receive solidarity from other people who have their own NEVER EVER games (Dragon's Dogma 2, Bloodborne PC, etc.)
>Silksong release date announced
>in addition to actual fans, those who know how long it's taken are also happy and, now, sincerely interested

Endgame in the live service game sense or the final state of any game, sense?
Because if we're talking about the live service style endgame, I know a game where there's lots of different goals to achieve, different game modes including 3-5 separate tiers of higher difficulty content that isn't just "boss deals more damage" as well as variant content that is kinda weird but fun in its own way, in addition to having having goals that are purely personal or for social status like customization. People with different kinds of taste can pursue different endgames because endgame content isn't this one monolithic thing. The moment to moment experience might suck, but the endgame offers a lot for people who actually want to engage with it.
