Why do humans waste so much energy competing with each other? Sports, the workplace, politics, the economy, war. Why is competition so common to us when it's obviously self destructive?

People are realizing that life is a waste of time. Nothing is even worth the effort anymore. My sheet keeps falling off my bed but what's the point fixing it when within a wee it will come off again. Life overall, is too much struggle for too little gain.

Idk what the point of life even is. Everything gets boring eventually even billionaires get bored. Why do we continue the cycle?
