that's because everyone recognizes a good character vs cheap tricks. The character simply has to be pivotal in the story and well written. Fan service is just a bonus for some people, but is always an afterthought. That's why Lupa will sell well even though her kit is slightly more restrictive than average due to the currently somewhat anemic fusion roster (no fusion healer, for example)
