There was nothing he could try. No matter how many times you repeat it, it's like saying he didn't try to knock down a brick wall with his bare hands. There was no mechanism by which Trump could stop the aid. Let me spell it out for you:

Trump couldn't cancel the aid because Congress gave it the imprimateur of Congress. Now let's just imagine that magically stopped being true. The aid was included in the NDAA, which always passes with 90% support or greater, so it was veto-proof, so Trump STILL wouldn't have been able to stop it.

That's the point: Israel only has our money to spend. I'll give you some perspective. Back in 2016 Obama signed an agreement to give Israel 38 billion dollars over ten years(3.8 billion/year). Of that 3.8 billion, 500 million is for missile defense. Based on their current estimates, they will have expended their yearly missile defense aid in about 42 hours.

This cannot continue without a BIG increase in aid, and Trump has been the stingiest with aid to Israel.
