survive was the far future after medical nanomachines went out of control in a grey goo-like situation. they ended up creating a lot of "kuban energy" as they consumed and converted everything into themselves, the kuban energy was used to create wormholes through time.
MGSV:TPP is a parallel to the book "genocidal organ" by project itoh which sees the villain unlock the linguistic secrets to genocide, using mass media to implant the linguistic triggers in a population to start a mass genocide. the book ends with the villain activating this linguistic trigger in english, the lingua franca.
MGSurVive is a parallel to "harmony", the sequel to genocidal organ where there is a massive time jump after "the cataclysm" (the activation of the linguistic genocide trigger in the lingua franca) and the world is locked down under medical martial law with constant surveillance on the populace to ensure they are healthy and psychologically stable. the parallel of survive to harmony is more tenuous, but you have the two elements of "far future apocalypse world" and "medical systems are demonized" in both. kojima was likely doing his own adaptations of project itoh's work (while also simultaneously working toward other goals with the projects), but ended up splitting with konami and had early design docs/ideas get picked up by konami who tried to finish the project by filling in a lot of blanks. death stranding actually has a lot more parallels to harmony than survive does, which really leads me to believe that this was kojima's way of trying to carry itoh on past his expiry date. kind of rude, then, to not include any mention of project itoh in the credits of TPP or DS where kojima would list all sorts of works that inspired his game.
