I'd say a wholly different cast of gods would've been a better start. Ofc we can't do that now but in a white room scenario the setting would benefit itself from distancing it from FB. What cast of Gods? Fuck if I know, I am not getting paid to navelgaze on an imageboard that I once loved.
Lacking that I would say that, alternatively, 40k would've benefited from changing identities of the Chaos gods and their design ques. Give them different names, different daemons, maybe even different colour schemes, different design ques. Y'know, similarly to how there are already parallels between Chaos Gods and Eldar Gods, i.e. Khaine = Khorne, Vaul = Vashtorr, but extend that parallel to 40k and Fantasy.
Why is it a bad thing in the first place? Daemons just look lame in 40k. They're wholly rooted in Fantasy and it shows through their designs and sculpts, they were created to be "the most alien" thing within FB but in 40k they just don't read like that when there are actual weirder ayylmaos around. And so in an attempt to rectify that people construct various headcanons like "Daemons are actually so humanlike because humans are so prevalent in 40k!", which is like 'fine' as a copout explanation but I think its far from perfect and does a bit of a disservice to the daemon image.
Whole "Warp connects two settings!" thing is incredibly poorly written and should be either axed or be ripped off as a bandaid and leaned even heavily onto and I much prefer axing it.
