In the case of aliens, no people wouldn't go crazy over it. Just look at how humans behave.
Whenever people encounter anything that challenges their ideas, especially ideas that deal with their identity, they just go into total denial and mental gymnastics around the subject.
People will just say that
>Of course there are aliens, god made them! We never really said there couldn't be aliens out there, god is great!
And they might even add:
>But humanity is the special one as we're the god's chosen
>He sent Jesus/his prophets on earth so we're special.
People who expect there to be a crazy upheaval in religious communities about aliens, are going to be very surprised about how nonexistent the reaction will be.
Same goes for a lot of normies. The reaction will be exactly like this pic.

>I still have to pay taxes and go to work
>I can't afford a home or to even buy a car, the fuck do I care about some ayyy watching me?
The reaction is going to be apathetic as fuck.
The real dramatic repercussions of the alien question are going to be regarding the world markets, especially energy markets, and the subject of who's in control of the governments.
And of course more esoteric things like human psychic capabilities and our growth as a species etc... but that stuff isn't in the category of potentially starting global wars.
