Banners. I don't have Dietrich's but it's black and seems to feature the Crest of Lamine? Which makes me think these are more like the faction flags of Roman gladiator teams/chariot racers than national flags.

Game's set in fantasy Not-Rome. The four lords are foreigners from Not-Syria, Not-Germanica, Not-Greco-Egypt, and Not-India, to compete in a tournament in the colosseum. They have faction flags like Roman gladiatorial teams/chariot racing teams.
