If it wasn’t for the Byleth/Sothis tease I’d bank on them also. I can see something where the tournament is shown from their perspective at the start and they see each of the four “MCs”. You then look at their backstory through mini campaigns until you finish all four, then Part 2 starts.
I have a feeling the Sothis stuff is gonna be a completely separate storyline happening away from the Dagda stuff. That would be wild.

Forget not outperforming 3H, Engage clearly never stood a chance against it, but failing to outsell Awakening is an epic fail. People can cling to the 1.6m sales all they want, these numbers don't exist in a vacuum. Selling less than half what your previous entry did is a flop. Selling less than the game you were openly designed to emulate is a flop. Your Year 2 sales in Japan dropping by 98% compared to your previous entry is a flop (not to mention getting dunked on by Echoes' of all things). Denying this is just wilful ignorance of how a business works. There absolutely were people at IS who flipped when they saw this.

Again, no company goes "oh well, better luck next time" when they register lower sales, regardless of how much of a gap there is. Nintendo owns the IP and they have rabid shareholders. I guarantee someone was pissed by Engage's results.
