What's interesting though surrounding Bucky and it's following. To my understanding in the original comics Steve was friends with another soldier by the name of Arnie Roth. And they had a close bond much like we saw between him and Bucky in the movies. However, Arnie was actually gay but no romantic relationship ever developed between him and Steve either. Then Arnie died from cancer.
