I'm using only the regular items here.

He got 108 for melee strength
I got 76


108 = 100
76 = X


X = 70%
Mine is only 70% of his melee strength.

Even with the most vanilla items, the difference is not that big.
Everybody has at least one special item or another, so the gap should be even lower for most people.
If you upgrade it to LV5 like he did, the gap should be even smaller.
