Not ironically, Paladin is a great class for any other characters except Tav/Durge. There are a quite a number of things that don't add up, especially in a game system designed to have a back and forth between the player and the DM, whereas here in a vidya game it's pretty much on rails without any room for discussion. The same thing applies to a lesser extent with Warlock and its subclasses, but at least there's no tax to pay there.
