My hypothesis regarding /bgg/ threads is that a form of social contagion is the main driving force behind a thread's quality. It's monkey see, monkey do. Posts themselves become memetic vectors, even if they are not intended to be memes (the DNA of the soul). If the OP is ugly, e.g., a close-up of a fat, ugly drag queen or a dragonfreak no one wants to see, it signals that the thread (general) is not to be taken seriously, and that shitposting is therefore expected. Where the main difference lies, in my opinion, is that most generals are not schizophrenic about their identities. Pick any gacha general, filter by the OPs, and you're likely to find an unbroken streak of a hundred cute (by their respective standards) gacha waifus. Trolls are unlikely to stubbornly stay in a general for a game they detest. There is an unspoken agreement to make the general pleasant for like-minded anons. /bgg/ is an anomaly in that regard - populated seemingly equally by fans and haters, even two years in. I believe choosing truth and beauty over falsehood and ugliness is a moral duty. It might be the most important one yet. Beauty begets beauty.

However; i was able to get it to work with dotnet8 and dotnetdesktop8. i had to update winetricks.

there's a ton of options in the chud mod, which is actually two parts. I just skimmed quickly: Realms Restores says that NoAlphabets is essential.
I appreciate the work they've done in giving people choices but since i mostly just want to play the game i grabbed everything defaults.

I'm glad there's more of these chud mods, they used to be a lot rarer.

In my honor mode run, I just had my character die midair in shadowfell. I had all of the shar buffs. Also, when my party went to use a scroll of revivify, shart killed aylin in a cutscene with no input from me.

However, I can't help but wonder... does this Dame indulge in blatantly violent acts perhaps a little too much? There's a fine line between acting to, and I quote directly, "chasten those who dole out their villainy by wiping their blight from the world forever" and a certain sadism, willingly doubling down, losing a bit of grace and "higher morality."

In particular, and we've already discussed this, there's a moment after the confrontation with Lorroakan in which Aylin refers to something different about her... perhaps decades as a prisoner in the Shadow Fell have broken her resolve? Hints at a possible future that will never be explored by DLC/sequels, or simply cut content?
I suppose we'll never know.

God, Barbarian and Giant in particular is such a simple yet at the same time mechanically complex class, the amount of battlefield manipulation you can do via throws and abduction is insane.

What would such "cut content" entail? A quest for Aylin the Oathbreaker that somehow involves the player character? Atonement is intrinsically personal - it's not a fetch quest an NPC gives you to go somewhere and retrieve the Oath they misplaced on a drunken night.

The thing is that we can discuss - and have discussed - in great detail whether Aylin broke her Oath at some point. Not ironically, Paladin is a great class for any other characters except Tav/Durge. There are a quite a number of things that don't add up, especially in a game system designed to have a back and forth between the player and the DM, whereas here in a vidya game it's pretty much on rails without any room for discussion. Armor of Agathys deserves an honorable mention if you're a Hexblade. It scales very well - a 5th-level slot grants 25 temporary hit points and deals 25 cold damage when hit by a melee attack. Yes, spell components are a thing. Most casual players just have each spellcaster purchase a "spell component pouch" and as long as that is on your person, you don't have to talk about spell components during normal gameplay, unless it specifically calls for something noteworthy like a diamond or a body part of a difficult monster etc. Then it can be part of the plot to acquire.

But if you like a more granular game, you have players actually track their spell components. I've done a few games with a survival theme and players had to track stuff like rations, spell components, arrows, etc. Players loved it. Most players who have been playing for a while appreciate new mechanics.

A history book can help you craft a more realistic feudal empire for your game, a book on military logistics can help you craft a more realistic military setting for your game, etc. A good gm is always hungry for things that can make a more fun and involved experience for their players.

It was an older run but I was stacking a lot of "add your modifier to the damage" effects (like from the Alfira robe and elemental necklace) on a Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer in tandem with bonuses like Kereska's Favour plus Mourning Frost. Levels 1-6 are going to be standard bard stuff, probably titanstring + roid elixir archery for the most part, so I'll be dumping STR and pumping DEX.
Level 7 I'll respec into Paladin 1 / Bard 6 and with access to smites & heavy armor it's possible to dump DEX, but I have no clue what my final stat spread would look like. But what I advocated for is that once you're an experienced player and you're looking for more types of games to explore, play a game with survival mechanics like tracking ammo, food, water, and material components. Going through a desert, an apocalypse, a wasteland, etc where resources matter has been a very fun gaming experience to break the pattern of games where every archer has an endless quiver and every spellcaster has an endless components pouch. It also rewards stuff like players taking proficiency in crafting tools related to food or arrows or spell components, so you actually make use of more character features too. Very positive feedback every time I've tried it. But I wouldn't do it every time, or without making sure everyone wants to try that sort of game. Tailoring your game to your players' tastes is just as important as occasionally trying new things.
