Which is why there isn't any parrallax between stars. In other words, if the stars were all different distances away, our yearly travel around the sun would result in different rates of apparent movement from stars at different depths. All constilations should therefore alter slightly from summer to winter, i.e. Orion might get fat, the spoon on the big dipper might become more angular etc.
As it stands there absolutely ZERO parallax between stars.
The only conclusion is they are all the same distance away from us, i.e. all attached to a dome.

you're looking at a rocket exhaust plume at high altitude being illuminated by the sun from beyond the horizon
it looks wavy because the wind at different altitudes and locations along the path has blown the trail in different directions
toward the end of the trail the plume starts to look more wispy due to the lower atmospheric pressure at high altitude

this is known as the "twilight phenomenon" or the "jellyfish effect"
