Sam Wilson is the character who somehow managed to lose an argument to a straw man. The writers literally controlled everything the senator said, they could literally give Sam any slam dunk they wanted on him, and Sam still had no reply to "You have no idea how complicated this situation is", he lost the argument to a straw man character.
