qott: i will probably do a couple because i am a greedy little slut who just can't resist. sorry. this is Clytemnestra by John Collier, 1882. it depicts the titular character from greek mythology immediately after the murder of her second husband, who she catches with a snare while he is bathing and dispatches with an axe. there are various accounts on her motive for this; an affair, murder of her first husband, but the one that speaks to me the most is that it is revenge for his decision to sacrifice their son in order to win a battle. the husband, in this case, is Agamemnon, one of the lovers of Cassandra, who is very dear to me personally.
