i can’t really draw anything but cute stuff… i drew myself into a hole over the years. i’m not nearly qualified to give advice but if i had to, i try to focus on facial proportions (large eyes, low cheeks and low mouths), body proportions (entire body 3-4 heads tall, shoulder width being only slightly wider than skull width), and hair volume. i also often heavily simplify or exaggerate design elements to suit the smaller body if i’m going extremely chibi (~2 heads tall).
the other anon is probably correct that learning musculature helps deformation but i’m no good at anatomy and it probably shows
