The only downside I can think of would be going crazy, fucking a mermaid, and then killing everyone and everything around you before starving to death.
The Lighthouse is a very underrated movie though. It's awesome how they actually filmed it too, they used real film and B&W exposure was so low they had to super-light the entire scene with giant lamps so the actors were constantly sweating. They needed massive spotlights just to get enough light into the cameras for even dim scenes.
