Today I learned my first chord, the C chord. The problem is, I couldn't play it properly because I couldn't get my fingers to stop touching the other strings. I definitely need more work on my fretting hand. I'm not playing notes cleanly enough. Also, I think my fingers might've been hurting too much to play the chord properly. I'll try again tomorrow.

I gave my learning process some thought and came to the conclusion that once I've gotten far enough in my beginner book, I'll begin trying to learn some songs. I don't want to play the boring songs in the book forever. I also think that YouTube will have some helpful advice that the book doesn't tell me. I'll ask you guys for some song recommendations when I get to that point!
