>shame they probably had a budget of $10,000 dollars and 3 packs of ramen to make it.
I'd argue they had even less than that because they didn't even port everything the mobile game had, neither for story nor units. The online was the wild west on release like in the old gacha days and this never got fixed so when the game was alive you'd be facing hackers every other match, not to mention it got a very defined meta early on so if you wanted to rank with anything that wasn't the popular big dick deck you could just forget about it. I'm specially butthurt because of this since the Rebels went from being having one of the strongest faction decks around to one of the weakest, hell faction decks in general suck now that the meta is mixed.
The singleplayer is a grindfest and a lot of the later levels are flatout unfair and you need RNG on your side for your starting unit to not get paralyzed and die in the first hit while the bajillion CPU units that spawn from second 1 rape your base.
Another problem, which is more personal, is that they didn't include guilds at all. Doing shit with your guild was one of the most fun aspects of early MSA and here it wasn't present at all.
The game's population took a dive months after release because of this and now the game is pretty dead. They hyped up the first free update near the end of last year and it changed the meta slightly (more in favor of aliens now) but the story was the same in the end, and after so long without another update it feels like the first one was also the last.
>Just need MSD / MSA with modding tools and it'd be golden.
This would be the ideal. Around the time MSA ended its service I took notice of some gooks trying to set up an experimental private server for MSA but I don't think that ever went anywhere
