>when had he ever lied to them?
Well if lies of omission count, most of that morning. Mike and Lucy were both acting weird, Paulo kept asking what was up, and Mike and Lucy both kept going "Nothing happened, shut up!" until the girls dragged Lucy off. Mike STILL wouldn't explain anything, Sue thought it wasn't their business to pry, and Lucy only spilled the beans after Daisy inadvertently got her all mushy by talking about boys.
Mike's generally honest and upright, but he's not COMPULSIVELY honest, he has kept secrets and lied. It WAS rude of them to pry and to judge Mike, but it wasn't some massive breach of trust like some anons make it out to be. Overall I think it was a pretty low-key reaction to "friend 1 confessed love to friend 2 and got rejected" by the standards of a highschool friend group.
