Your game can be the greatest thing in the world, but if it has a terrible aesthetic and no visual hook, people will not care.
Concord is unironically the best example that can be brought up here. There was nothing on a technical or quality level wrong with the gameplay, not even the cult of personality Youtubers were dogging it for its gameplay. It got zero interest because it looked like shit visually, none of the characters were appealing and were called the discount Guardians of the Galaxy.
