It feels like there was this minor sub genre in this time period, of mixed 2d animation and live action films where the animation was sometimes almost treated like a special effect rather than a whole separate sequence. Song of the South, Bedknobs a Broomsticks, The Incredible Mr Limpet, Pete’s Dragon, etc. Often it was employed so that a particular cartoon character could interact with the live action cast. It’s actually not that dissimilar to current “live action” movies with CG characters, like Sonic.

And with most of these old movies, the cartoon part is the more memorable. The ONE major exception is Mary Poppins. That had mixed animation sequences, but amazingly the live action characters and scenes were so good that they managed to not get overshadowed by the animation.
