MoF is deeply souled and while I kinda doubt some kind of Suwa faith revival was his goal, something like this happening was an inevitability. She's complicated, but so is the real history of Suwa.
There's perfectly valid ways to do remote worship for the Suwa Taisha if you still feel like it. I also genuinely wish you would get an opportunity to visit Suwa. No other place, not even in Japan, felt quite so "alive" as it did. Some other holy sites had stronger local feel of that, but Suwa was by far the largest area where I really felt it. It was the only place in Japan I was sad to leave and only one I really long for.
As for a Kanako thread, if no-one makes it sooner, I will make one when the trees get their autumn colors here.
