Eventually their groups of followers wrote fanfiction hyping their respective guy up toting him as the prophet of god/allah and saying that both of them are perfect and have the exact perfect message of god.
Even if you do Believe that jesus or Muhammed were actually prophets, there are so many degrees of separation that there is no possible way the 'word of god' has not been tainted by ill actors or crazy people. here is the path of information
God > jesus > disciples > thousands of years of translations reprinting and holy wars rewriting what is the 'true bible' > hundreds of different sects branching off all with their "own one true version" of the bible.
I'm not saying the bible, quran, and talmud are inherently bad, you can get a lot of spiritual growth and guidance from the three (hence why so many people follow them to the letter), I'm just saying that believing ANY scripture written or recorded by human hands as the 'immutable word of god' is completely moronic.
there are so many holy books that say they preach the 'one true god', then which one is it? All abrahamic religions INSIST that they are the correct one even though their near identical neighbors say the exact same thing.

believing in god and being a good person without the need for middle-eastern jewish telephone book shenanigans is the way to go in my opinion, it makes it so much easier, you don't need to read a book made by another mortal to know the word of god, all you have to do is listen/observe the world and the universe and you'll receive an answer from god.
