I've been coming to that mindset as well, I feel if a dev team wants to tell a new story or wrap up some, I want them to be able to do it, but this can have its consequences. That's part of why I don't like Sly 4 Thieves in Time, it took the ending of 3, threw it out the window, only to end on a cliffhanger that will never be resolved. Even Jak's own fourth game (coincidentally like Sly 4, was done by another dev team) ends with more adventures to come.
As for Ratchet, at least Insomniac never gave it a "conclusion" in any game, just the ending to that game's story. Narrative aside, some people just don't like how they play.
