I would refuse to turn in orders and disable service buildings so they couldn't reach the resolve threshold during the year, only turning them on when the storm came to avoid runaways. By the end of this, I was so close to having my impatience reach full that I literally paused and did the math to see if I could realistically wait for the current expedition to come back and survive. I would have had 30 seconds to spare, so I didn't risk it and just let the resolve end the game at year 11 or whenever it was. In order to get the 12 expeditions, you basically need to get an early porridge recipe building and a plantation. Eventually it will start asking for goods, too, but by that time you'll probably have enough to not have to worry about anything other than time. Also send them out at minimum resources so they come back faster

I somewhat disagree. Most of the rewards I think are fairly balanced. That one specifically was an easy one to deal with, so a reward of extra food and planks at the start of each settlement is pretty strong at giving you a headstart. I do like the more recent additions that give you new buildings or upgrades to work with temporarily, like the fire shrine from the wanderer or the tree shredder which I had last cycle.
