I feel like a lot of his dickriders need to realize that, yes, John was incredibly influential to the animation industry, but he also did a lot of shit that held it back. Ren & Stimpy looked great and was surreally well-written, essentially kickstarting the animation Renaissance, as a way to rebel against how safe, bland, and stiff cartoons of the 70’s-80’s looked, it may seem like R&S was refreshing to work on for animators at the time, but Johns rampant perfectionism (I’m not against the idea of making a toon looking good but doing shit like forcing animators to revise one scene 50 times over a box color like he did in Stimpys invention is pure overkill) and tardrages behind the scenes took away from the fun of the production, which hampered his whole idea of putting the fun back into cartooning. This shit and his constant habit of missing deadlines kinda drove networks away from greenlighting Spumco-adjacent shows, Spumco-inspired What a Cartoon pilots like Podunk Possum, Worm Paranoia, those Pat Ventura shorts could’ve been greenlit have it not been for him. Not to mention how much he’s damaged the reputation of wacky cartoons (especially that of his own show), I remember when the first images of Fixed were revealed moralfags were quick to say "Oh my god, that look wacky, it remind of John K me so me hate it".
