Politics has always been pragmatic, never moral. The first sign of political maturity — when you ascend from the classical leftist v right-wing mentality — is when you divorce politics from morality. Politics is only moral provided that morality is convenient, otherwise it is ammoral. The fact that one or other important figure diddles children and nothing is done about forces us to conclude that these agents hold in fact some leverage that makes prosecution inconvenient.

My guess is that this secret trump Card is the fact that all authorities are equally implicated in crime (pedophilia, bribery, being aware of the crime and not reporting), which means that prosecuting one may lead to a general purge and is a complete assured destruction of all participants.
